In Previous episode, We saw all our lead characters together. And two of our lead characters also died as they needed to get their karma back. We also came to know the worst incident of Ju-yeon’s life, which happened when she was a high schooler. Episode 4 starts with a scene we already saw glimpses of in episode 1. But in episode 1, the scene was cut after a time and went to 15 days before the fire accident. In this episode, we’re going to see that scene fully and also see how another lead gets their karma back. Let’s begin the episode 4 recap.
Chapter 4 – The Woman Trapped in the Past
At the beginning of the episode, the firefighters come to put out the fire. Then they go to rescue if there is any people. Among the three of them, two people were already burned and one in critical condition. But somehow he is alive and the police emergency admits him into the hospital. At the hospital, neurosurgeon Lee Ju-yeon (Shin Min Ah) was in charge of his burned patient. Here we see that the burned person is the cyclist. Woohoo!! How can he be there?
After the scene cuts, we see Ju-yeon checking up on a patient, and he is too angry at her for mental health in the hospital, obviously. Here we came to know about a new character. His name is Cheol-mok, who is a case officer. He gave her his card and told her:
“Your face is full of worry, Dr. If you need help for problem-solving, then please give me a call.” Ju-yeon just takes the card and goes to the burned patient. While writing the patient’s personal information, she came to know that the patient’s name is Jae-yeong. But as we already saw, the patient is actually the cyclist man. Here, he is hiding his own personal information and just using Jae-yeong’s identity. What is the mystery here? We’ll know it later. Back to the drama, after hearing the name Jae-yeong, Ju-yeon goes into shock as if something had happened with her involving this name. Her boyfriend, who is also a doctor and her colleague, asked her if something was wrong. But at that point, Ju-yeon doesn’t tell anything. She just ignores him, saying she is tired.
After coming into the room, Ju-yeon is still panicked after remembering the name “Park Jae-yeong” and takes her medicine to calm down. But instead of calmness, she just breaks the mirror in her room, filled with anger. Now she is trying to find out information about Jae-yeong, and her boyfriend caught her while doing that. He just told her to tell him if there is any problem first. After that, she was thinking and saw the card—which is Cheol-mok, the case officer’s card, which she got from him that morning. Later she goes to him and asks him to find Jae-yeong’s real identity and his past details, and where he is now and what he is doing.
After she left the office, we see those two spies who were spying on the previous episode’s dead Sang-hun. ASAP, Cheol-mok starts finding the information about Jae-yeong and gets it also by night.
Ju-yeon’s Trauma: The Terrifying Truth from High School
Moving forward, we see the details of what actually happened with Ju-yeon. Back in high school, Ju-yeon went on a date with Jae-yeong that day. After a beautiful day ended and while they were both going back home, two masked boys came, knocked her unconscious, and started beating Jae-yeong. Then they took her to that building where the previous episode’s deceased Yu-jeong was present. They left her there with the boys, and the rest of the story we all have seen in the previous episode. Later, during a police investigation, Ju-yeon recognized the victim at the police station. We see that the boys had no shame or regrets for doing this disgusting thing.
Here, Jae-yeong came, and until this moment, Ju-yeon didn’t know that he was the mastermind behind this worst incident. After knowing that the boy she went on a blind date with—and probably would be with as a girlfriend, since she once said while holding his hand,
“Your hand reminds me of my dad”—she panicked at the police station. And to this day, she has this panic whenever she hears the name “Jae-yeong” or remembers the person.
At present, Ju-yeon is thinking about that while sitting next to the fake identity Jae-yeong, who is actually the cyclist.
Later, the case officer calls Ju-yeon and tells her that Jae-yeong is now in a different city, Paju, and is living a quiet life there while being jobless. After hearing this, Ju-yeon just leaves the room. But the next morning, the officer calls Ju-yeon again and tells her that they’ve made a mistake about the information. Currently, Jae-yeong is next to her, in the same hospital, room 402. After hearing this, Ju-yeon runs to the room and stands still in front of it but can’t go inside because the police officers arrive for the investigation into the cause of the building fire. Here, fake Jae-yeong tells the police officers a totally fake story about what happened in the building and the fire incident.
Face to Face: The Illusion of Revenge
After the officers leave, we see Ju-yeon go into the room with a sharp knife. Getting into the room, Jae-yeong starts talking about that 20-year-old incident. While he is talking, Ju-yeon stabs him in the neck many times while saying:
“I’ve dreamt that for countless times. Stabbing you in the neck.”
But in actuality, it was just an illusion of Ju-yeon. The next day, Jae-yeong gets discharged from the hospital. Ju-yeon immediately goes to the lift with him and says: “You really don’t know me? How could you forget me?” But since this Jae-yeong is using a fake identity, he doesn’t know her. He replies: “The real Jae-yeong doesn’t exist anymore. Don’t act like you know me.” After that, fake Jae-yeong leaves for Paju. But Ju-yeon stands in front of his taxi and says: “I can’t go to sleep because of you. Even if it is just one night. But I want to sleep without any dream.”
But Jae-yeong just leaves the place, ignoring her words.
The episode ends with Ju-yeon’s words: “Now I can go to sleep properly. Because I’m going to kill you.”
In this episode, we have solved one mystery—why Ju-yeon wants to kill Jae-yeong. But another mystery has arrived—why is the cyclist using the identity of Jae-yeong, and what actually happened with the real Jae-yeong? This mystery will probably be solved in the next episode.
