A Netflix crime, thriller, mystery-related K-drama “Karma.” In the previous episode, we met another lead character: Sang-hun, Yu-jeong, the cyclist. We see that Sang-hun murdered a middle-aged man, who was actually Jae-yeong’s father, by hitting him with a car. And now, he is continually blackmailed by the cyclist for money. But at the end of the episode, after the final deal between them, the cyclist comes to him again. In this episode, we’re going to learn all the reasons. Also, we’ll see all these crime characters’ scenes together in this episode. Let’s start.
Karma – Episode 3: Recap
We see that the cyclist comes to Sang-hun’s clinic and blackmails him again to give him an extra 30 million. The scene cuts there and now moves into Jae-yeong and Jang-gil’s part.
Scene shifts to Jae-yeong, the debtor who planned and murdered his father for insurance money in Episode 1. Now he is crying in the bathroom after hearing that his father was found buried in the mountains. Then, for the investigation, an officer/inspector comes to him and notes everything before the murder. The officer asks one by one whom he met on that day. Later, Jae-yeong goes to the insurance office to apply for his father’s insurance, which names him as the nominee. But they make him wait too long and finally let him know that he cannot get the money right now because his father’s death is still under investigation and it’s not clear whether it was a murder or an accident. He then requests the office to do something about the insurance money so he can get it soon because the debt due date is getting close. In Episode 1, we saw that the debt is now a matter of life and death for him.

Confrontation at the Funeral
After that, he goes to his father’s funeral, and there Jang-gil comes to him for his share of the money. They both get into an argument because Jang-gil didn’t murder as planned. For this reason, now it looks like murder or an accident. Here, the Chinese man Jang-gil blackmails him with the tape recorder where the murder plan was recorded. Since Jae-yeong didn’t get the insurance money either, he asks Jang-gil to give him more time. Jang-gil gives him just a week.

Jae-yeong’s Deadly Decision
We see that the police inspector is also there, watching what they’re doing. ASAP, he follows Jang-gil and goes to the area where all the Chinese live. From Jang-gil’s van, he steals the tape recorder for a while but eventually gets caught. Jang-gil thinks Jae-yeong sent the officer to steal the recorder, so he murders the police inspector. After that, he sees a CCTV camera and realizes everything has already been recorded. He also learns that the person he just killed was a police inspector.
After this incident, Jang-gil calls Jae-yeong to tell him everything. He’s now going to be arrested soon, so he decides to go to China by tomorrow. He also asks for the money no matter what. As Jae-yeong still hasn’t received the insurance money and has no other choice, he decides to murder Jang-gil. Because if he can’t pay him, then Jang-gil will kill him as well. Their scene ends here.

Sang-hun Discovers the Truth
Moving on, at the very beginning of the episode, we saw that the cyclist now asks for 30 million won, which is getting tough for Sang-hun, but he agrees to give him the money by this week. Sang-hun goes to get his car back from the garage and learns from the garage owner that the damage to the car was possibly caused by something falling from above. ASAP, he collects that day’s recorder memory from the garbage. Here, he finds out that he is not the murderer of the person — confirmed by the car’s camera footage. The actual murderer is the cyclist, who threw the person from the bridge. ASAP, he calls Yu-jeong and says that now they should go to the police to report the cyclist, and she agrees. They meet in Yu-jeong’s car, and he shows her the video footage. After seeing the footage, a plot twist comes — a major plot twist.
We see that Yu-jeong disrespects Sang-hun badly, and they both get into a fight in the car. In the meantime, the cyclist gets into the car. Actually, Yu-jeong and the cyclist are friends, and that was their plan. Soon, they knock Sang-hun unconscious and go to their nostalgic place on purpose to bury him alive. As per the plan, both are carving clay. But fortunately, Sang-hun wakes up and finds Yu-jeong laughing so hard with her plan. Betrayed emotionally, Sang-hun loses control of himself and drives the car at full speed with his hand tied to Yu-jeong. Yu-jeong dies on the spot. But fate goes wrong for him. His hands are tied, and the cyclist is still there. You imagined it right — now the cyclist doesn’t let Sang-hun go since he was going to the police. Sang-hun begs for his life, but the cyclist doesn’t listen. He says, “You literally snapped that tiny girl in half, and what? You’re asking me to spare you?” Then he murders him with a spade. Meanwhile, the two spies are still taking photos of Sang-hun. Later, the cyclist buries both of them there and leaves the place without leaving any proof.

Ju-yeon’s High School Trauma
At the end of the episode, we see a high school scene of the last main lead, neurosurgeon Lee Ju-yeon (Shin Min Ah). We only saw her in Episode 1. Now we get to see an incident from her life when she was in high school. There, she was asked to pose for the school festival pamphlet cover because she was so beautiful, and she agreed. But this small thing sparked jealousy in another girl — the girl is Yu-jeong. Yes, Yu-jeong is the girl who was too jealous of that and wanted to satisfy her jealousy by going as far as possible. Somehow, she managed to send Ju-yeon on a blind date with her friend. In reality, under the guise of a blind date, Yu-jeong had Ju-yeon drugged and abducted to the same dilapidated building seen in the present timeline. Yu-jeong arranged for three mask-wearing boys to assault a captive Ju-yeon.
Scene shifts to the present, where present-day Ju-yeon wakes up from this nightmare, which actually happened in her life. The episode ends with this scene.

In this episode, there is a major plot twist where two of our main leads get their karma: Sang-hun and Yu-jeong. Now you might say Sang-hun didn’t do anything wrong, so why was he murdered? Well, we’re going to see that later. And there’s also a question about why the spy was behind him. Maybe there’s a mystery there too.
Next blog will be about Episode 4. Till then, stay tuned with K-Wavey Wavies!!!
